Sitharalgal

Sitharalgal 2007 housed 28 participants, excluding the influence of the Tamil Language Society committee members. The forum was a success with all objectives accomplished successfully. The topic of the day was interpreted and discussed in various illuminating perspectives.

Participants discussed issues like, Out-of-bound Markers in Singapore, the need for Student quota in NUS, Foreign Talents versus Local talents. Our guest facilitators were Mr. Arun Mahizhnan, Deputy Director – Institute of Policy Studies and Mr. Azhagia Pandian, lecturer at Republic Polytechnic and previous head of Oli 96.8. Armed with their thorough expertise, they flawlessly led the discussion in the multiple directions. Sitharalgal 2007 was indeed a feast to the ears, as all participants made a concerted attempt to share their opinions in Tamil.

As conceived, the forum was able to encourage Tamil language usage among NUS Tamil students. Moreover, Sitharalgal aided to clear the dark clouds of ignorance, with respect to policy initiatives especially, with the sunlight of knowledge that was contributed by our guest facilitators.

The discussion ended at 9p.m sharp. From participants’ feedback, it was clear that  majority of them were very appreciative of such an attempt and encouraged us to have more of such forum sessions. Further more, participants were deeply appreciative of the opportunity created for them to speak in Tamil.
